Saints Snap Six Game Skid with 11-4 Victory over Goldeyes

WINNIPEG, MB (August 27, 2013) - Over the next four nights the St. Paul Saints will try and play the role of spoiler. At least for one night the Saints did just that pounding the Winnipeg Goldeyes 11-4, snapping their season high six game losing streak, on Tuesday night at Shaw Park.

After being shutout in their last three games to the Goldeyes last week at Midway Stadium, the Saints made sure that wouldn't be blanked again. The Saints pounded out 12 hits, with every player collecting at least one hit and seven of nine scoring at least one run. The Saints got it rolling in the first inning and never looked back. Dan Kaczrowski reached on a one out infield single and that was followed by a Brandon Tripp single. Brian Burgamy then launched one over the left-center field wall, his seventh homer in 18 games with the Saints, to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.

With the Saints leading 3-1 in the second the first four men reached for the Saints. Andy Henkemeyer led off with a walk. Trevor Hairgrove laid down a sacrifice bunt to third, but Yurendell de Caster's throw to first was off target allowing Hairgrove to reach. Jeremy Mayo walked to load the bases and Adam Frost was plunked to force in a run and give the Saints a 4-1 lead. With one out Tripp made it 6-1 with a two-run single to center. After an intentional walk to Brian Burgamy loaded the bases which prompted a pitching change, Joey Becker's ground ball back to the mound went off the glove of Taylor Sewitt, which meant the only out he could record was at first and Frost scored on the play to make it 7-1.

The Saints put the game away in the eighth inning. Leading 8-3 the Saints loaded the bases with nobody out. Tripp drove home his third run of the night with a sacrifice fly to deep center to make it 9-3. He finished the night 2-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Burgamy's fielder's choice brought home a run, his fourth RBI of the game and Donald Blunt's sacrifice fly finished the scoring for the Saints.

Starter Anthony Claggett provided another solid start for the Saints as he tossed 6.0 innings allowing two runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out three.

The same two teams meet in game two of the three game series on Wednesday night at Shaw Park at 7:00 p.m. The Saints send LHP Cole Nelson (5-2, 3.02) to the mound against Goldeyes RHP Matt Jackson (3-0, 3.31). The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM.
