Historic Week Earns Ziegler League Honors
August 27, 2013 - American Association (AA)
Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- Wichita Wingnuts' first baseman C.J. Ziegler has been named the American Association's Batter of the Week for August 19th-25th.
Ziegler had a monster week in which he hit safely in seven of seven games. The right-handed slugger was 16 for 29 (.552) with eight runs scored, four doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 14 RBI. On August 21st at Gary SouthShore, Ziegler hit for the first cycle in team history. Ziegler's home run that night was also his 27th of the year. At the time, that tied an American Association single-season record set by Brandon Sing (Sioux Falls) in 2010. The following afternoon, Ziegler drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out, RBI single in the top of the ninth that finished off a stunning comeback over the RailCats.
After Sioux Falls' Tim Pahuta cracked two home runs on August 22nd versus Fargo-Moorhead to surpass both Ziegler and Sing, Ziegler homered in back-to-back games versus Grand Prairie this weekend to establish a new American Association record.
The 27-year-old Ziegler currently ranks 12th in the American Association in batting average (.323), and first in both home runs (29) and RBI (97). Ziegler is also tied for fourth in runs scored (76), tied for fourth in doubles (31), eighth in walks (51), eighth in on-base percentage (.408), and first in slugging percentage (.660).
It is the second time this season Ziegler has won Batter of the Week and the seventh time a Wingnuts' player has earned league honors.
