ST. PAUL, MN (July 8, 2007) - If the St. Paul Saints are going to make the playoffs these are the types of games they will need to win, but on Sunday afternoon they dropped a 2-1 game to the Lincoln Saltdogs in front of 5,556 at Midway Stadium

Saints starter Adam Brandenburg and Saltdogs starter Kyle Ruwe locked horns and matched each other pitch for pitch. Brandenburg went 6.0 innings allowing two runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out two, but Ruwe did him one better going 7.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking one and striking out three.

The Saltsogs got on the board first in the top of the fourth when Brett Cooley slugged a solo homer to left field, his eighth of the season.

The Saints tied it in the bottom of the inning when Marcel Longmire walked with one out. He moved to third on a single by Brian Sprout and scored on a sacrifice fly from Adam Bourassa.

The Saltdogs got the decisive run in the top of the fifth when Corey Harrington had a one out single to short. He moved to second on a single by Tony Garcia and scored on an RBI double from Federico Balet.

The Saints had an opportunity to tie it in the bottom of the inning when Skip Adams led off with a double. He advanced to third on a sac bunt from Ryan Priddy. Scooter Jordan then hit a fly ball to medium left and Adams elected not to try and tag up. Ben Thomas grounded out to second to end the inning.

In the ninth Longmire hit a one out double to left, but he was thrown out at third trying to steal. Sprout ended the game by lining a shot back to the pitcher, which was knocked down and Sprout was thrown out at first.

The Saints head out on the road for a three game series against the Pensacola Pelicans at 6:35 p.m. The Saints send LHP Brian Whinnery (4-1, 2.05). The game can be head on KBGY 107.5 FM.
