
Saints Handle Canaries, 12-4

SIOUX FALLS, SD (June 17, 2007) - A day after being shutout for the first time this season the St. Paul Saints went crazy offensively beating the Sioux Falls Canaries 12-4 on Sunday afternoon at Sioux Falls Stadium.
The Saints, as has been their trademark, got a huge inning which helped propel them to the victory. With the Saints leading 3-0 in the sixth they exploded for six runs. The Saints sent 10 men to the plate and it got started with one out as Brian Sprout singled to left. Adam Bourassa followed with a single and Alex Fonseca walked to load the bases. Ben Thomas, who was moved down to the eight spot in the lineup because of the left-handed starting pitcher, came through with an RBI single. Ryan Priddy, who finished the day 3-5 with four RBI, drove home his first two runs with a two-run single to center. Matt Brunson loaded the bases again with an infield single. With two outs Brent Krause hit a fly ball to right that fell in front of a diving Will Quintana which cleared the bases to make it 9-0 Saints. Krause finished the day 2-5 with two doubles and four RBI.
The Saints cruised from that point getting solid starting pitching from Adam Brandenburg, who picked up his second victory of the season, going 5.2 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits while walking four and striking out two. The bullpen was tremendous with Kyle Foster going 2.1 scoreless innings allowing just one hit and Tony Pierce closing out the ninth by striking out three.
Eight of the nine Saints collected a hit and five of the eight had a multi-hit game. Marcel Longmire extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the second inning.
The Saints take Monday off and return to action on Tuesday afternoon against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis and Clark Park at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Brian Whinnery (1-1, 3.41) to the hill. The game can be heard live on KBGY 107.5 FM.
