Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
Sioux City broke open a one-run game in the eighth inning when the Explorers scored three times and went on to defeat the Shreveport Sports 5-3 at Fair Grounds Field in the final game of the three-game series.
Shreveport had tied the game in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Bryan Cooksey, his second of the year, but Sioux City took the lead with a run in the top of the sixth.
Trailing 5-1, the Sports scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on a two-run single by Juan Ventura, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Shreveport had the tying run at the plate with two out in the ninth, but J.P. Schmidt flied out to end the game.
The Sports will have an off day Monday before opening up a three-game road trip to Pensacola Tuesday. Shreveport will return home to Fair Grounds Field Friday for a doubleheader with Fort Worth.
