St. Paul Saints News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD - For the second consecutive night the St. Paul Saints managed just four hits, but a tremendous pitching performance by Saints starter Zach Peterson enabled them to win 3-2 over the Sioux Falls Pheasants on Saturday night at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Peterson struggled in the first, but settled down after that. Joe Anthonsen and Tim Hutting reached on back-to-back singles. With one out Beau Torbert knocked in Anthonsen with a single to left-center giving the Pheasants a 1-0 lead. Brandon Sing followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0, but Peterson would settle down after that.

The next jam Peterson ran into was in the fourth when the Pheasants had runners at second and third and one out, but he got Eddy Rodriguez to foul out to first and Anthonsen to ground out to short.

Peterson finished his night in the eighth. With two on and two out he struck out Hunter Jobes to end the inning and preserve a one run lead. Peterson went 8.0 innings allowing two runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out four while recording his seventh win of the season.

The Saints tied the game at two in the fourth when Jason Cooper struck out, but reached when the ball got away from catcher Rodriguez. With two outs Josh Burrus slugged a two-run homer, his eighth of the season.

The Saints took the lead in the sixth when Brandon Carter walked, moved to second on a wild pitch. Three batters later Brent Krause singled to right driving home Carter for the deciding run.

The final game of the 2010 season is Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. as the Pheasants and Saints finish off their four game series. The Saints send LHP Ryan Morse (5-4, 4.97) against Pheasants RHP Ryan Shaver (7-3, 5.03). The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
