Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Shreveport-Bossier Captains infielder/designated hitter Christopher Garcia added to his impressive collection of accolades this season when he was named to the American Association's postseason All-Star team Saturday, as voted on by league field managers and media personnel.
After finishing second in the league in batting average last season, Garcia is hitting .378 this season, good for third. He is also fourth in the American Association with 87 RBIs, and leads the Captains with 14 home runs - in addition to leading the squad in those other two categories.
Garcia is also an on-base machine. He started the season by reaching base safely in the first 41 games of the season, and has a league-leading .500 on-base percentage and is tied for third with 76 bases on balls.
The lefty-swinger from Brooklyn also excelled in the midsummer classic in Wichita, Kan., finishing second in the home run derby and then winning All-Star Game MVP honors, after going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and a home run in his first at-bat. He was also named the league's batter of the week for the week of July 27-August 2.
Since he moved to first base, Garcia has been solid in the field - he has not made a single error this season.
The Shreveport-Bossier Captains continue their final 2010 regular-season series with game two of three against the Grand Prairie AirHogs, at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, August 28. The Captains will next be at home for Game 3 of the South Division Championship Series against the Pensacola Pelicans, at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, September 3. Postseason tickets are on sale now at Fair Grounds Field for all possible home playoff games. All games are broadcast streaming live on ustream.tv. For information on tickets, promotions, advertising, and other opportunities with the Captains, check out the team's Web site at www.sbcaptains.com, or call the Fair Grounds Field office at (318) 636-5555.
