Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (41-13-3-5, 90 pts) completed a historic regular season with a 5-2 defeat against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (25-30-5-2, 57 pts) on Saturday night.

Without a handful of regulars in the lineup on Saturday, the Fighting Saints fell behind 3-0 early in the second period of Saturday's contest. Shortly after the third goal, Dubuque drew a few penalties to earn an opportunity to fight back with power-play time.

Dubuque did just that with Beckett Hendrickson's 27th on the power play and Erik Påhlsson's 28th just after a power play ended late in the second. Påhlsson assisted on Hendrickson's tally along with Seamus Powell before Cornforth set up Påhlsson to make it a one-goal game.

The Saints started the third within a goal, but allowed a tally just 20 seconds into the third that extended the Riders' lead back to two.

The Fighting Saints power play scored once on six chances, while the penalty kill stopped one of two Riders' chances.

Dylan Johnson made 22 saves on 26 shots in the loss, breaking a four-game win streak for Johnson.

The Fighting Saints will begin their quest for a sixth Clark Cup as the top seed in the Eastern Conference. They will host Games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21 against the winner of the first-round series between Madison and Youngstown.
