Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

GENEVA, IL - The trip to Chicago has been a pleasant one this season for the Muskegon Lumberjacks (37-22-1-1, 76 pts.) who continued the good vibes on Friday night with a commanding win over the Chicago Steel (27-27-3-4, 61 pts.).

The Jacks opened the scoring late in the first period with a power play goal at the 17:14 mark. Ty Henricks (Mission Viejo, CA) gave the puck to David Klee (Castle Rock, CO) on the near side of the goal line. After his shot towards the short side high corner was turned aside Klee took the puck below the goal line and to the far side where he popped a pass out to Justin Solovey (Holmdel, NJ) to one-time to the back of the net.

After the Steel tied the game up on the back of Ryder Betzold's first career USHL goal the Jacks regained their lead with another power play goal. This time Klee was the one who found the back of the net after Xavier Veilleux (L'Ancienne-Lorrette, QC, CAN) took a shot from the blue line resulting in a rebound in the crease for Klee to tap home.

Chicago tied the game again in the second period on a goal from Brady Arneson, but again the Jacks responded goal in quick succession. Cooper Pierson (Zionsville, IN) gave the puck to Sacha Boisvert (Trois-Rivieres, QC, CAN) on the near side of the ice on his way into the zone. Boisvert cut towards the middle and ripped a shot under the glove of the goalie for his 35th goal of the season at the 13:28 mark.

Just a minute and a half later the Jacks struck again. Danny Klaers (Minnetrista, MN) sent a pass up the middle of the ice to Joe Connor (Amherst, NH) behind the defense. While protecting the puck from the back checking defenseman Connor pulled the puck to his forehand and chipped the puck over the goalie's shoulder for the goal. Friday was Connor's 4th straight game finding the back of the net.

Two more goals in the third period made it 6-2 in favor of the Lumberjacks. Cody Croal (North Branch, MN) finished off a shorthanded 2-on-1 rush alongside Connor at the 1:58 mark while Boisvert scored his second goal of the game on a power play at the 11:29 mark. Matvei Gridin (Kurgan, RUS) entered the offensive zone and centered the puck for Boisvert to bang home from the slot.

Another first career USHL came for the Steel and Teddy Mutryn at the 13:51 mark, but Gridin regained the Jacks 4 goal lead with his 37th goal of the season finishing a play started by Connor and Croal.

With his goal and assist Gridin extends his USHL leading point total to 82 in 59 games played.

Shikhabudtin Gadzhiev (Makhachkala, RUS) (17-10-0-0) earned the win with 29 saves on 32 shots against. Wesley Jefferson-Swint II (0-1-0-0) earned the loss in his USHL debut with 20 saves on 27 shots sent his way.
