April 13, 2024 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (41-12-3-5, 90 pts) host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (24-30-5-2, 55 pts) on Saturday night to complete the regular season.
Here are five things to know ahead of the matchup:
1. Cowbell Cup
With a 6-3 win over Waterloo on Friday night, the Fighting Saints clinched their fifth-consecutive Cowbell Cup title. Dubuque has now won the competition eight of the 13 times it has been held.
The Fighting Saints finish the regular season on Saturday with their final Cowbell Cup matchup, and final all-around matchup of the season, against the RoughRiders.
2. Powell Play
Noah Powell extended his league-leading goal total to 43 with his fourth hat trick of the season in the win on Friday night. Powell scored twice on the power play in the second period of the Saints' 6-3 win over Waterloo.
His pair of power-play goals gave him 16 goals on the man-advantage this season and for his career, the most of any Tier-I Fighting Saint in team history. Teammate Lucas St. Louis is right behind with 15 power-play goals in his career.
3. Hendy Helps
Beckett Hendrickson added a pair of assists on Friday night to extend his scorching stretch for the Fighting Saints. Over the last 10 games entering the weekend, Hendrickson had six goals and seven assists for 13 points.
His pair of assists on Friday lifted his overall point total as a Fighting Saint to 19 over 15 contests. He has eight goals and 11 assists since being acquired by Dubuque at the trade deadline.
4. Points Party
The Fighting Saints tout their longest point-streak of the season, entering Saturday's matchup after a pair of points on Friday night. The Fighting Saints have points in 11-consecutive contests, dating back to a win at Muskegon on March 15.
Dubuque has won nine of the last 11, with the team's only losses coming in a pair of shootouts to USA NTDP U18s and Chicago.
5. Riders Rounds
The RoughRiders had lost eight-straight contests entering the weekend, but scored seven goals to defeat the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday night. Loa Milfors scored twice and assisted twice in the 7-4 win, moving his season point-total from nine to 13.
Cedar Rapids has been eliminated from playoff contention and will be wrapping up its season on Saturday night in Dubuque with a final Cowbell Cup matchup. The Fighting Saints won the first three meetings of the season series, but Cedar Rapids has taken three of the last four since.
Saturday's game begins at 7:05 p.m. CDT at ImOn Arena and tickets can be found here. The game can be found on Eagle 102.3 and FloHockey.
