Omaha Lancers News Release
KEARNEY, NE. - The Omaha Lancers headed out to Kearney, Nebraska for their last road contest of the season, which was against the Tri-City Storm. The two teams would kick off the weekend at the Viaero Center before heading back to Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Omaha for the season finale tomorrow (4/13).
With both teams heading into this weekend with nowhere to climb or fall in the western conference standings, the two squads were looking for a clean pair of games to finish off the 2023-24 campaign.
Tri-City was able to score early with a goal from Artemi Nizameyev at the 4:04 mark of the first period for the 1-0 Storm lead. But the Lancers would come back with two of their own to head into the first break with the lead.
Sam Scheetz found himself alone in the slot and sent in a feed from Will Elger to tie the game at one goal apiece. Followed by a power-play goal from Bobby Cowan for the first of his United States Hockey League career.
On top of Elger, Jamison Sluys and David Posma picked up assists in the first period as the Lancers lead 2-1 through 20 minutes.
Sluys ended up earning himself a multi-point night in the second period as he extended the Lancers' lead to two, making it a 3-1 game. Drew DellaSalla carried the play into the attacking end and laced a beauty of a backhanded pass through defenseman. Sluys was on the backdoor and put the shot just inside the post for his 14th goal of the season.
The final frame translated to three power-play goals and an empty netter between the two teams.
Tri-City netted the first goal on the man advantage at the 5:21 mark of the period as Ryan Smith sent a shot five-hole on Omaha Goaltender, Kam Hendrickson, making it a 3-2 game in favor of the Lancers.
Omaha would regain their two-goal lead with a power-play goal from Nick Pierre off a feed from Jamison Sluys. Noah Jones moved the puck down from the point, finding Sluys in the far-side faceoff circle. He then sent a pass through the slot, finding Pierre who scored off a one-timer while falling to make it a 4-2 lead for Omaha.
The final power-play goal was scored by Tri-City Forward, August Falloon just over 90 seconds later as he went top-shelf off a pass from below the goal line from linemate, Nolan Roed to cut the Lancers lead to just one goal.
Pierre would grab is second goal of the night and his 24th of the season on a 150-foot empty net goal with under a minute to go to seal the 5-3 road victory for Omaha.
The Lancers are back on home ice for the season finale Saturday, April 13th for a 6:05PM CT puck drop with the Tri-City Storm. That game will be avialable on FloSports and Mixlr.
