St. Paul Saints News Release

EL PASO, TX (May 30, 2007) - It turns out the third time isn't the charm for the St. Paul Saints as they failed for the third time to sweep a series as they lost 7-6 on Wednesday night at Cohen Stadium against the El Paso Diablos.

With the Saints trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning they jumped on Diablos starter Charles O'Neal for four runs. Marcel Longmire led off with a walk and Brian Sprout doubled him to third. Brent Krause followed with a two-run double and Josue Lopez knocked home Sprout with a single, Lopez went to second on the throw to the plate. Billy Cox sacrificed Lopez to third and Ryan Priddy's sac fly made it 4-1.

Saints starter Jeff Urban couldn't hold the lead, however, giving up five runs in the bottom of the inning. The Diablos sent nine men to the plate and got an RBI triple from Logan Wood to start things off. Evan Conley added an RBI double and Jordan Belcher knocked home the third run of the inning with a single. Kory Drew finished the scoring with a two-run double to put the Diablos up 6-4.

The teams traded runs from that point with the Saints scoring a run in the fifth on Krause's second double of the night, which brought home Ben Thomas. Krause finished the night 3-5 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored.

The Diablos got back-to-back doubles in the seventh by Juan Camacho and Walter Olmstead to give them a 7-5 lead.

The Saints made it interesting with a run in the eighth on Thomas' RBI double and they had a chance to tie it in the ninth. With two outs Krause and Lopez had back-to-back singles which put runners at first and second, but Cox struck out against closer Ned Darley to end the game.

The Saints have Thursday off and will play a double header on Friday at Fairgrounds Field against the Coastal Bend Aviators which begins at 6:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Jake Postlewait (3-1, 3.38) in game and LHP Adam Brandenburg (0-0, 11.12) in game two. Both games are seven inning contests and game two will begin approximately 25 minutes at the conclusion of game one. Both games can be heard live on KBGY 107.5 FM.
