Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
The Shreveport Sports suffered their first shutout of the season Wednesday, losing to Coastal Bend 2-0 at Fair Grounds Field.
The contest was scoreless through eight inning, but in the ninth the Aviators loaded the bases with one out. A wild pitch by relief pitcher Matt Clayman allowed the first run to score and a sacrifice fly by Brian Fryer scored the second run for Coastal Bend.
The Sports best opportunity to score came in the sixth inning when they had the bases loaded with one out, but Coastal Bend starter Pedro Flores struck out Melvin Falu and then got Alex Entrekin to fly out to end the threat.
Shreveport had only two hits and didn't get the first hit off Flores until one out in the fifth inning.
Shreveport starter Derek Cunningham pitched 7 1/3 innings of scoreless ball, but wasn't involved in the decision. With the series tied at a game each, the two teams will meet again Thursday to close out the short three-game home stand for the Sports.
Game time will be 7:05 pm and will be broadcast on AM 1130, KWKH.
