FRISCO, TX - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (23-9-22-3, 51 pts) came back twice in regulation on Thursday to force overtime, but fell 4-3 in the extra frame to the Sioux Falls Stampede (20-15-1-2, 43 pts) to open the Frosty Cup.

With 6:06 left in regulation, Noah Powell scored for the second time to bring the Saints level at three late in the contest. Then, with just under two minutes left, James Reeder drew a penalty to send the Saints to the power play. After opening overtime with a few chances, the power play finished unsuccessfully and Sioux Falls' Jaksen Panzer beat Kevin Reidler to finish the game.

Powell's second goal was the Saints' second comeback of the night. After falling behind early in the game, the Saints gave up a second goal to fall behind 2-0 late in the first. However, Powell scored his first of two in the game to bring the Saints within one. Then, with 37 seconds left in the opening frame, Jake Sondreal and Powell rushed up ice and found Joona Väisänen for a back-door redirect goal to tie the game at two.

Sondreal and Powell both logged three-point nights for Dubuque. Sondreal extended his league lead in points and assists to 49 and 33 respectively. Dubuque's league-leading power play was unable to score in two chances in Thursday's loss. Reidler made 29 stops in the Saints' overtime loss.

Both teams meet again on Friday night to wrap up the Frosty Cup in Dallas at the American Airlines Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
