St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (August 18, 2011) - Without the hard work of a community, youth sports would not thrive.

That's why the St. Paul Saints and Ryan Companies are teaming up once again to restore a local rec center so that it can live up to its name: The Palace. The Palace Recreation Center in St. Paul is the latest project taken on by the Saints and Ryan Companies in an effort to make it clean, safe and fun for kids of all ages.

Saints players and staff along with volunteers from the Ryan Companies will bring their hardhats and tools to Palace Recreation Center in the West 7th Neighborhood starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 20. On the checklist will be pulling weeds, gardening, painting and replacing benches, installing bleachers and picnic tables, as well as fixing the infield and pitcher's mound.

In addition to restoring the fields, volunteers will help repair and highlight a memorial at the site for fallen soldier, Army Sgt James Wosika Jr. Wosika. Wosika, a St. Paul native, fell in action in Iraq on January 9, 2007.

Along with the Saints and Ryan Companies, many other local businesses are making this project possible including, Shaw/Stewart Lumber Company, Sunrise Painting & Wallcovering, Inc., Kramer Mining & Materials Inc., Arteka, and the City of St. Paul Forestry Department.

The project will finish in the early afternoon before players and staff return to Midway Stadium for the evening's game against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 7:05 p.m.

Palace Recreation Center is located at 781 Palace Avenue, Saint Paul, MN.

In 2010, the Saints and Ryan Companies fixed the El Rio Vista Recreation Center in St. Paul. In 2008, they combined to work on Edgcumbe Park in St. Paul.
