Saginaw Wins in Overtime Over Barrie

Tonight, the Guns and Hoses charity game took place at The Dow Event Center. The Guns took home the hardware with a win over the Hoses with a score of 5-3. Proceeds will go to benefit the Department of Veteran Affairs and their Aid to Needy Vets Fund. Following the charity game, the Saginaw Spirit defeated the Barrie Colts with a score of 5-4 in overtime. Spirit scoring was spread out amongst four different players.

Spirit got off to fast start in the first period. Left winger, Garret Ross scored first for the Spirit with a nice cross-ice pass from John McFarland. Moments later McFarland scored to take on a two-goal lead over Barrie. Shortly after, Barrie's captain, Colin Behenna puts a goal on the board for Barrie making the score 2-1, but Trocheck answers with a goal of his own, with an assist from Dalton Young to make the Spirit 3-1 over Barrie to end the first.

Coming out strong in the second period, former Spirit player, Alex Lepkowski scored for Barrie with an assist from Norm Ezekiel and Erik Bradford. The two teams played an even match for the remaining of the period with the score 3-2 at the end of the second.

Barrie came out strong again in the third period, while Behenna scored his second goal of the game to tie the game 3-3. Left winger, Joshua MacDonald scored with the assists going to Bradford and Alex Yuill. The goal gave Barrie the lead for the first time in the period. Trocheck answered on a power play with his second goal of the game to tie the score 4-4 and forced overtime.

With a 1:39 remaining in overtime, Josh Shalla scored his first goal of the season to win it for the Spirit!
