Saginaw Falls in Plymouth 7-3

On the last Friday night of 2011, the Saginaw Spirit fell to the West Divisions first place team, the Plymouth Whalers by the score of 7-3 at Compuware Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. Plymouth fired 41 shots at Spirit goaltended Tadeas Galansky while Saginaw mustered 33 at R.J. Mahalak. Scoring tonight for Saginaw was Jimmy Lodge, Anthony Camara, and Vince Trocheck.

Plymouth wasted little time getting on the scoreboard on Friday night, scoring just 16 seconds into the game as Beau Schmitz notched his eighth goal of the season. The Spirit came back and put pressure on the Whalers through the middle portion of the period but could not get onto the scoreboard. It was at 16:30 of the period that Stefan Noesen, a first round pick of the Ottawa Senators, scored his 14th goal of the season to give the Whalers a 2-0 lead. Shortly thereafter Noesen would score again, this time on the power play, but this would not be all for the Whalers in the first period as Mitchell Heard would add a goal to make the score 4-0 heading into the first intermission.

Two minutes into the second period, Noesen would complete the hat trick, scoring his third goal of the game to stretch the Whalers lead to 5-0. Saginaw would answer back four minutes later as rookie forward Jimmy Lodge would score his fourth goal of the season on the power play to pull the score to 5-1.

The Whalers would answer the Lodge goal early in the third period, as Mitchell Heard would add his second goal of the game to put Plymouth up 6-1. Minutes later, Plymouth's Matthew Mistele would score his first goal of the season to put the Whalers up 7-1. Saginaw would not go away quietly however. At the 17:58 mark of the period, Anthony Camara would add his seventh goal of the season, assisted by Terry Trafford. Then with less than a minute to go in the game, Florida Panther's draft pick Vince Trocheck would score his 17th goal of the season, but Plymouth would take home the victory, 7-3.
