Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. â Back in March, the Long Beach Ice Dogs teamed up with the Saddleback Valley Educational Foundation (SVEF) to help raise money to restore the 3rd grade classrooms previous size (20 to 1 student/teach ratio) at the 26 elementary schools in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District. Proceeds from Ice Dogs tickets sold for the games on March 20 and 21 by the reduction committee went towards the $650,000 needed by June 1.
The Ice Dogs got the ball rolling, helping to spearhead a fundraising effort that successfully earned a commitment from the District to fund the program. The Ice Dogs headed a big rally to attract support for the program, bringing the team mascot Spike and a couple of Ice Dogs players to the rally at one of the schools. Fliers were distributed to the students at each school in the District with a ticket order form to be filled out by the parents. Nearly half of the proceeds from each sale went to the SVEF.
"This was a great event that launched our fundraising drive", said Don Romoser Chairman of the SVEF 20-1 Committee. "The parents responded and have done something to help the District through a crisis situation. The Long Beach Ice Dogs delivered a tremendous family event that generated funds and immeasurable publicity for us."
The Ice Dogs will be called upon this season for other fundraising initiatives with the SVEF, such as a science program, instrumental and vocal concerts, technology upgrades, and various high school sports programs.
