Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC â The Pee Dee Pride announced today that the team has signed center Chad Spurr to a contract for the 2004-2005 season.
The 25-year-old comes off of a career year last season with the Central Hockey League's Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. In 53 games he scored 31 goals and added 39 points for 70 points. In two seasons with the Mudbugs, the Hamilton, ONT native suited up in 100 games, scoring 98 points.
This season marks a return to the ECHL for Spurr, who scored 31 points in 72 games with the Charlotte Checkers in 2001-2002. Spurr is also familiar with Pride head coach Perry Florio, having played under the Pride mentor with the Roanoke Express for the final three regular-season games and in two playoff games in the 1998-99 season.
"Chad has excellent speed, natural ability, and three years of professional experience," Florio said. "All three of those traits are exactly what we have been looking for. Chad will make a significant impact on our club this year."
The Pride open the 2004-2005 regular season on Friday, October 22, hosting the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies at 7:30 p.m. Opening weekend continues the following night, as the Pride take on the Augusta Lynx, also at 7:30.
