Sacramento Monarchs Request Waivers On Demya Walker

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., May 15, 2008 - The Sacramento Monarchs today requested waivers on forward DeMya Walker.

Walker suffered a right knee patella fracture on April 27, 2008, while playing with her team, Nadezhda, located in Orenburg, Russia. She underwent successful surgery on May 2, 2008, under the care of Monarchs Team Doctor Richard Marder.

"The Monarchs organization has been incredible to me, and I am very thankful for all it has done and continues to do to support me," Walker said. "I plan to remain in Sacramento and I look forward to cheering for the Monarchs."

The Monarchs open their 12th WNBA season at ARCO Arena as they take on their 2007 WNBA Playoffs First Round opponent, the San Antonio Silver Stars, on May 17 at 7 p.m., PDT, with local television coverage on News10.

Following their first game of the 2008 season, the Monarchs travel for three road games before returning to ARCO Arena for a two-game homestand; they will face the Houston Comets on Friday, May 30, and the Detroit Shock on Friday, June 6.
