NEW YORK, May 15, 2008 - The WNBA is teaming up with the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement for the second consecutive year in an effort to make women more aware of their risk for heart disease and to learn how they can take action to reduce that risk. One in three women has some form of cardiovascular disease and heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death among women in the United States. Under the partnership, WNBA teams and players will encourage fans to take the Go Red Heart CheckUp at GoRedForWomen.org to calculate their personal, 10-year risk for heart disease and find information about controlling blood pressure, cholesterol and weight.

Teams will recognize local heart disease survivors, conduct auctions to benefit Go Red For Women, and invite nutritionists to speak on maintaining heart health, among other activities. In addition, players will take the Go Red Heart CheckUp and encourage fans to do the same.
