New York Liberty News Release
NEW YORK - The New York Liberty has signed All-Star guard, Sabrina Ionescu, to a multi-year extension through the 2025 season.
"We couldn't be more excited to announce Sabrina's multi-year extension," said Liberty General Manager Jonathan Kolb. "Her career is already off to a historic start and her will to win is truly unparalleled. Sab has quickly become synonymous with the Liberty franchise, and we look forward to her continued success in New York for many years to come."
In May 2022, New York exercised its fourth-year team option to extend Ionescu's rookie contract through the 2023 season.
Ionescu's extension comes after a breakout 2022 campaign that saw her lead the Liberty to its second consecutive playoff berth and first postseason win since 2015. She earned All-WNBA Second Team honors, a spot on the Associated Press First Team, two KIA WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month honors (June and August 2022), and four total Eastern Conference Player of the Week nods. Ionescu made her first-ever WNBA All-Star appearance where she was voted a starter and won the 2022 WNBA Skills Challenge. Additionally, she finished 2022 as the first player in league history with over 500 points, 200 rebounds, and 200 assists in a single season.
"I'm thankful and honored to be able to represent the New York Liberty for the next couple years," said Ionescu. "Joe and Clara Wu Tsai, Jonathan Kolb, and the entire Liberty organization has been nothing short of amazing over my time here, and I'm thrilled to work towards bringing a championship back to New York City."
Through 69 regular season games, 65 of which were starts, Sabrina has averaged 14.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game-the only player in WNBA history with such career averages across the three categories.
New York Liberty 2023 season tickets, group packages, and single-game tickets are all on-sale at nyliberty.com. The Liberty's season tips off on Friday, May 19 in Washington D.C., followed by the home opener at Barclays Center on Sunday, May 21 against the Indiana Fever.
