The Columbus Blue Jackets announced today that center Ryan Johansen will remain with the NHL club.
Johansen has played nine games with Columbus, and his first-year contract becomes guaranteed upon playing his 10th game. In his nine games for Columbus, Johansen has registered two goals and two assists for four points. His first NHL point was an assist at Ottawa on Oct. 22, and his first NHL goal came on Oct. 25 vs. Detroit.
Last season, Johansen was named the Winterhawks' MVP with 40 goals and 52 assists for a team-high 92 points. The Blue Jackets selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft.
"Every player's dream is to make it to the NHL, and we're very happy for Ryan that he will be staying with the Columbus Blue Jackets," said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. "He's worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and that work ethic will help him succeed at the next level."
