Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. -- Brandon Wheat Kings' general managerKelly McCrimmon has announced that rookie left-wingerCarter Proft has been traded to the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for a fifth round bantam draft choice.
A 6' 187 lb Spruce Grove, Alberta product, Proft was Brandon's fifth round selection (106th overall) in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.
After playing two games as a 16-year old affiliate in 2010-11, the former St. Albert Midget had one goal and ten minutes in penalties in thirteen games this season.
In 20 games with the St. Albert Midgets in 2010-11, Proft had ten goals and 16 points.
"Carter was in a situation where we weren't going to be able to get him adequate ice time to keep him happy", said McCrimmon. "When Jens Meilleur and Dominick Favreau return to our line-up we would have 14 forwards. When this opportunity presented itself, we felt it was the right move for all involved."
On the ice, the Wheat Kings travel to Swift Current Tuesday night to meet the Broncos. Brandon is currently tied for second place in the WHL's Eastern Division with a record of 9-5-0-1. Following tonight's game, the Wheat Kings will return home for back to back weekend games against Calgary and Medicine Hat on Friday and Saturday nights.
Tickets to both weekend games are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
