Rush look to continue surge in Central Division standings
March 9, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
A five-game unbeaten streak and a 7-1-2 run in their last 10 games has moved the Rapid City Rush into third place in the Central Division with a 29-25-5 record for 63 points. The Rush trail second-place Quad City by two points and are one point ahead of Wichita and two points clear of Tulsa.
The Rush opened a three-game road trip with a 3-2 overtime loss at Wichita on Wednesday. Dylan Clarke and Cody Ferriero scored for Rapid City while John Griggs turned aside 28 shots in goal.
On Friday, Rapid City skated away with a 3-2 shootout win at Missouri. Ferriero tallied the equalizer midway through the second period, then added another goal in the shootout, and Kale Kerbashian tallied the clinching goal in the fifth round. Danny Battochio stopped 14 of 16 shots during game action, then turned aside four of the Mavericks' five shootout attempts to earn the win.
The Rush closed their trip with a 3-0 victory at Missouri on Sunday. Ferriero, Jesse Schultz and Kevin Harvey each had a goal and an assist in the win while Battochio stopped all 22 shots he faced to record his fourth shutout of the season, tying him for the league lead.
Schultz leads the Rush, and is tied for third overall in the league, with 62 points (27g-35a) in 57 games. Despite playing in just 28 games, Ferriero is tied for 12th among ECHL rookies with 37 points (19g-18a), and leads first-year players with seven power-play goals.
Rapid City is home for three games this week, hosting Central Division leader Allen on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
