Rapid City Rush News Release
(RAPID CITY, S.D.)- The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames, are eyeing a weekend sweep of the Tahoe Knight Monsters after a resilient 6-3 win last night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. MST on Saturday at The Monument Ice Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
The Rapid City Rush scored early and often to run past the Tahoe Knight Monsters, 6-3, at The Monument Ice Arena on Friday. Cameron Buhl led the way with a career-best three-point night. The second-year forward scored twice, including the game-winning goal, and picked up a primary assist. Blake Bennett, Ryan Chyzowski, Briley Wood, and Quinn Olson buried a goal each for Rapid City. The Rush scored less than six minutes into the game and were not tied beyond 1-1. Each team scored in all three periods, but a three-goal third for Rapid City made the difference.
A CAREER NIGHT FOR BUHLER
Cameron Buhl recorded his first three-point night as a pro and third multi-goal game of the season. He has already tripled last year's goal output from four to 12. His second goal- the eventual game-winner- was a thing of art: Buhl poke checked the puck off a Knight Monster's stick and directly into the net.
RACKING THEM UP
Six members of the Rush had multi-point performances: Buhl, Bennett, Chyzowski, Wood, Russell, and Pierce. Six players were a plus-three on the night for Rapid City, who turned in one of their best performances on home ice this season.
SURVIVED MORE PENALTY TROUBLE
For the second straight game, penalties were heavily lopsided against the Rush, with power plays favoring Tahoe, 6-2. All three Knight Monsters goals came as a result of their power play: two true power play goals and another just after the expiration of the penalty. Rapid City survived the game's turning point halfway through the third period. After taking back-to-back penalties just two seconds apart, Tahoe scored a 5-on-3 goal almost immediately to cut the deficit to 4-3. However, the Rush killed the ensuing power play and did not surrender another goal the rest of the night.
THE GRIZZLIE CONNECTION
The former Utah Grizzlies- Cameron Buhl and Briley Wood- combined for three goals and five points in last night's win. They also directly assisted on one of each other's goals.
LOOK WHO'S ON THE BENCH!
Nathan Torchia was activated off the 14-day injured reserve and served as the backup goaltender last night. Torchia last played on December 20th in Idaho.
AN AFTERNOON ON BASE
The full Rush team, staff, and front office spent Tuesday afternoon visiting Ellsworth Air Force Base, our second straight year doing so. The team even got to see the inside of B-1 bomber jets. Two B-1B Lancers from Ellsworth flew in the eight-ship formation at Super Bowl LX in California back on Sunday.
