Rapid City Rush News Release

(Corpus Christi, TX) - On Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush were blanked 5-0 in the first and only meeting of the season with the Corpus Christi IceRays. With the loss, the Rush have their season-long 11-game and point streak and 15-game road point streak snapped. Despite the loss, the Rush remain in first place in the CHL's Northern Conference.

The Rush didn't get the start they wanted, digging themselves into a 2-0 hole less than three minutes in. The IceRays got the scoring started at the 1:14 mark when Kyle Peto found Ryan Garbutt in behind the Rush defense for a breakaway and Garbutt finished with a backhander to the top shelf. Over a minute and a half later, CHL leading goal scorer Chad Woollard drove hard to the back post and deflected home a Chad Costello pass for the 2-0 lead.

It was much of the same in the second as the IceRays collected a pair of powerplay goals to double the lead. Steven Later sent home a shot from the goal mouth for his 7th of the season off of a deflected pass from Costello. Then at the 12:10 mark, Kyle Peto picked up a loose puck in front and chipped it home for the 4-0 lead.

The lone goal in the third period was scored by Ryan Bennett for Corpus Christi's third powerplay goal of the game, making it 5-0.

The next home game for the Rapid City Rush is Wednesday, February 24th against the Arizona Sundogs. Tickets are still available for that contest.
