Mississippi RiverKings News Release

LOVELAND, CO --- Louis Dumont continued to dominate the Colorado net for the RiverKings, but a four-goal first intermission RiverKings deficit was a hole too big to climb out of, as the Eagles defeated Mississippi 6-3 on Saturday, February 20 in Loveland, Colorado.

Dumont scored two goals and added an assist for the night, giving him six goals in three games against the Eagles this season. Ed McGrane highlighted the Colorado attack with a three-goal hat-trick, although two goals were empty-netters in the final minute of play.

The win was just the first regular season victory by Colorado in seven straight tries. Mississippi still leads the all-time series against Colorado by a 14-8-1 margin.

With the loss, the RiverKings fell to 25-21-6 for the season, holding onto fourth place in the Central Hockey League Northern Conference standings by three points over fifth-place Tulsa, which was idle Saturday night.

Colorado took a 4-0 lead after one period of play. Aaron Schneekloth scored a power play goal, followed by full strength tallies from Riley Nelson, Kevin Ulanski, and McGrane for the big lead after twenty minutes of play.

The RiverKings cut the deficit in half in a second period marred by several skirmishes between the two teams. Louis Dumont scored both goals for Mississippi in the middle period, scoring first on a penalty shot at 12:42, and again on the power play at 16:09. That followed a series of incidents where 62 penalty minutes were issued between the two teams with less than five minutes left in the session, including game misconducts to Colorado's Fraser Filipic, Alex Penner, and Mississippi's Kevin Truelson.

Mississippi got within a goal in the third period when Darrell Stoddard netted his eighth goal of the year, assisted by Dumont and Held to make the score 4-3 Colorado six minutes into the final period.

However, there was no further scoring until McGrane's two empty-net goals in the final minute of play resulted in the final score. Mississippi was 1-for-8 on the power, while Colorado was 1-for-9. The RiverKings outshot the Eagles by a 31-29 margin. Tim Boron took the loss in goal for the RiverKings, seeing his season record fall to 4-6-2 for the year. Boron was 9-of-13 playing just the first period. Mark Sibbald took over in the second period at the crease for the RiverKings and did not allow a goal in14 Colorado attempts.

Mike Mole was the winning goalie for Colorado with a 28-save effort, as his record improved to 17-5-3.

Mississippi wraps up the four-game road trip Tuesday night in Missouri. Game time is 7:05 PM.

Next home action for the RiverKings will be February 26 against the Wichita Thunder, starting at 7:05 PM in the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. Down Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Mid-South will be highlighted as the non-profit MVP of the night. A jersey auction of the Pink in the Rink Night jerseys will take place and there will be a post-game skate on the ice for fans after the game.

March 13 is the date for the retirement of Don Parsons' jersey number 13. A pre-game ceremony will take place prior to the game between the RiverKings and Bossier-Shreveport that will include a video presentation and the unveiling of the jersey banner from the DeSoto Civic Center rafters.
