Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - John DeCaro made 29 saves for his first shutout of the year and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs scored four first-period goals on their way to a 6-0 win over the Tulsa Oilers Sunday afternoon at the BOK Center. The victory completes a sweep of this weekend's three-in-three for the Mudbugs, who outscored opponents 16-5 in the three games.
Six different players scored goals for the 'Bugs, who got a goal and an assist each from Jeff Kyrzakos, Shawn Limpright and David Rutherford. The win improves Bossier-Shreveport to 3-0 against Tulsa this year and 29-17-4 overall.
The Mudbugs exploded for four goals in the first period to take a commanding lead in the contest. Mark Johnson got it started at 5:01, getting his career-high ninth of the year to open the scoring. Dave Pszenyczny made it 2-0 midway through the first, banging home a back-door pass from David Rutherford, who extended his CHL-leading point streak to 16 games on the play. Just about two minutes later, Shawn Limpright tapped in the rebound of a Jeff Kyrzakos shot to extend the lead to 3-0.
The 'Bugs capped off the period with a pretty goal as Joe Blaznek dropped a pass off for Simon Mangos, who gave it right back on a give-and-go play as Blaznek rifled in his team-leading 19th of the year. John DeCaro made 15 saves and the Oilers hit two posts in the period as well.
The Mudbugs kept up the pressure in the second period when Tyrel Lucas stole a puck in the Tulsa zone and fed Rutherford, who danced around the crease before backhanding a shot past Marty Magers to increase the lead to 5-0. Kyrzakos then set up in the slot and buried his 17th of the year off a feed from Limpright at 12:08 to give Bossier-Shreveport a 6-0 advantage after two periods.
Neither team scored in the final frame as DeCaro turned aside five more shots to complete his 17th win and first shutout of the year. Marty Magers finished with 23 saves in the loss as the teams both totaled 29 shots in the contest. Both clubs also finished 0 for 2 on the powerplay.
