Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - NYTEX spectators went home as proud Brahmas fans after tonight's eighth straight victory , this one being against the CHL Southern Conference leaders, the Odessa Jackalopes. Announcer Jeff Bowerman said it best by saying tonight's game was a "[CHL] playoff game in February!" The first two periods were a scoreless defensive showdown that didn't come without its number of scoring chances for both teams. Both goaltenders were tested in periods one and two, and in the middle frame, Texas had an extended :51 second 5-on-3 opportunity, but were unable to convert.
Texas was in a bit of penalty trouble later in the second when Craig Minard and Ross Rouleau sat in the sin bin, giving a lethal Odessa powerplay over a minute with the two man advantage. The Brahmas PK unit was up to the task to send the game tied at 0-0 into the second intermission.
A severe angle shot from Scott Thauwald to Joel Martin's blocker side found its way to the back of the net to open the scoring in the game. The goal marks Thauwald's second in as many nights. Lee Jubinville gave the home team the 2-0 lead when he beat Martin as linemate Tyler Skworchinski was a diversion to the Odessa defense as he sat on the ice in front of the crease.
Tyler Skworchinski also sealed the deal with under a minute left in the game by an empty net goal to show that the Brahmas are still "reloaded for a repeat" in their quest for consecutive CHL Championships. The Brahmas finished the game victoriously, 3-1, hoping to keep their undefeated streak going into tomorrow's road game versus the Wichita Thunder. Faceoff is slated for 5:05 PM, and all the action can be caught on CHL-TV.
