St. George RoadRunners News Release

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - The St. George RoadRunners returned home on Tuesday night after a crushing seven-game sweep in Maui. At home, the Burnt Orange's offense came to life scoring six runs in the fifth inning and tacking on five more two frames later to handily defeat Tucson by a score of 15-6 in the opener of a three-game series.

St. George improved to 9-18 with the victory. Tucson's record is 13-16 after dropping their second straight.

Two franchise records were either met or bypassed in the victory. Henry Calderon went 5-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. His five hits tied a record for most in a single game - the feat was previously matched by Trever Dimick, Greg Lemon and Eddy Garabito. The mark for most walks in a game was broken by Vic Buttler who took first four different times.

Raymar Diaz threw six quality innings scattering two runs on five hits and striking out five. Diaz also shined from the plate going 2-for-2 with a three-run homer, an RBI single and a walk.

Tucson got a leadoff solo home run from Ryan Priddy to take an early lead, but St. George countered as C.J. Lang doubled and scored on a wild pitch.

Leading 4-2, the home club blasted seven hits en route to six runs in the fifth against Davis (L, 3-2) and Toro reliever Jason Hanna. After a walk to Buttler, five straight hits plated five runs. Brett Flowers and Calderon had RBI singles. Scott Clement and Casey Raisbeck added run-scoring doubles.

Calderon added a two-run double in the seventh.

Eude Brito allowed an unearned run in two frames and Kyle Boggio gave up three runs - none earned - in the Tucson ninth.

Game two is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:05pm Mountain. RHP Reed Dickert is expected to start for the RoadRunners. James Garcia will make his third start versus STG for Tucson.

Live audio coverage can be found on ESPN SportsRadio 1210, 102/107 Cool FM - The Fox and Network1Sports.com. John Potter will kick-off the festivities with the Infowest RoadRunners Pregame Show.

NOTES: Diaz hit the first STG homer for a pitcher this year... Vince Davis' bomb was the third for an opposing pitcher at Bruce Hurst Field - joining Edmonton's Mike Hrynio and Yuma's Cha-Seung Baek...

With five hits, Calderon's batting average increased from .291 entering the game to .324 - an increase of 33 points.
