Chico Outlaws News Release

(Chico, CA. June 22nd, 2010) The Chico Outlaws scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and ended up with their league-leading 21st victory of the year with an 8-1 over the Edmonton Capitals on Tuesday night at Nettleton Stadium.

Mark McLemore got the start for the Outlaws and pitched a beauty, going four and a third innings before surrendering a hit to the Caps, who fell to 13-14 on the year with the loss. The lone run of the night for the Capitals came in the top of the fourth, when center fielder Ryan Stevenson coaxed a walk out of McLemore to lead off the frame. One batter later, former Baltimore Oriole Larry Bigbie hit a sac fly to left field to score Stevenson, making it 1-0 Edmonton.

The Outlaws didn't get on the board until third baseman Ismael Castro hit a solo homerun to left center field off Capitals starter Chris Little, who surrendered just one run on five hits before giving way to the bullpen. Castro's homerun, his second of the year, tied the game at 1-1.

David Dinelli (1-0) pitched the eighth inning for the Outlaws, earning the win as he relieved McLemore, who went seven innings and allowing just one run on one hit. Throwing 80 pitches, 55 for strikes, McLemore was ahead in the count on just about every hitter he faced, but got a no-decision.

Chico came up big in the eighth inning, scoring seven runs in the frame. 11 batters went up to the plate in the inning, which was lead off by a Bobby Hill single. After a walk to JJ Sherrill, Mikael Jova flied out for the first out. Edmonton elected to intentionally walk catcher Mike Rose to load the bases. Castro then came through for the second time of the game, hitting a two-RBI single to left field, scoring Hill and Sherrill. One batter later, Prieto drove in Rose with a single, making it 4-1 Outlaws. Pinch-hitter Mitch Einertson slashed a two-RBI single to drive in both Castro and Prieto and the rout was on at 6-1 Chico. Blake Gailen got his second hit of the night, a single, setting the stage for a Hill two-RBI single to plate Einertson and Gailen for the final tally of 8-1.

Rusty Jones came in for Chico and finished the game for the Outlaws, pitching the ninth inning.

With the win, Chico is 21-6 overall and in first place in the GBL North Division.

The Outlaws and Capitals play game two of this three game series on Wednesday night at the Nett. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm PST.
