
Scorpions Sting Flyers in Extra-Innings Loss

YUMA, Arizona (June 22, 2010) - The Orange County Flyers squandered a 6-0 lead as the Yuma Scorpions scored seven straight runs for an extra-innings win at Desert Sun Stadium on Tuesday night. Orange County falls to 11-14 on the year. With runners on the corners and one out, Walter Correa doubled off the left field wall to score the winning run from third in the 10th inning.
The Flyers led 6-0 before Yuma scored six runs over the eighth and ninth innings to force extras, getting the tying runs on a two-out double by Tim Rodridguez after back to back walks in the ninth.
The Scorpions closed the gap with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Bryan Harris thanks to a two-out rally featuring run-scoring doubles from Matt Ceriani and Jonel Pacheco to pull within two runs, 6-4.
Byung-Hyun Kim, pitching on three days rest, threw five scoreless innings for the Flyers. The former Major Leaguer struck out seven and walked one while giving up just four hits. Kim and reliever Kevin Altman combined to shut out the Scorpions through seven innings.
Derek Perren led the way for the Flyers offense, going 4-for-4 with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, giving OC an early 3-0 lead.
Andre Simpson (0-4) took the loss for Orange County, pitching 1 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on three hits while walking two batters and striking out three.
Orange County and Yuma will play the final two games of this four game series at Estadio Revolucion in San Luis, Rio Colorado, Mexico on Wednesday and Thursday. Both games south of the border will start at 7:30pm Pacific.
