Capitals Robbed by the Outlaws

June 22, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Chico, CA - The easiest way to make up some ground in the Golden Baseball League standings is to beat the team you're ultimately chasing. The Edmonton Capitals have a great opportunity to do just that with a three game series in Chico. They missed an opportunity to close the gap after dropping an 8 - 1 decision to the Outlaws Tuesday night in the series opener. The score is a bit deceiving in what turned out to be a tight affair through seven innings. Capitals starter Chris Little and his counterpart on the mound for Chico, Mark McLemore, both put in solid performances. Little pitched into the seventh inning giving up just a solo home run to the lead-off batter Ismael Castro. Chico would add a couple of RBI singles with the bases either loaded or with runners in scoring position to bust the game wide open in the eighth inning to pull away for good.

The Caps run came on a sacrifice fly by Larry Bigbie to score Ryan Stevenson. Only centre fielder Jorge Cortes, catcher Josh Tarnow and first baseman Tom Collaro managed hits for Edmonton in the contest. Edmonton has dropped two in a row and slips seven games behind Chico for first place in the GBL's north division.

The Capitals road trip will continue with two more games in Chico followed by stops in St. George and Calgary before returning home for a Canada Day tilt against the Vipers at TELUS Field. Make sure your July 1st plans include this 4 for $44 Thursday. It's a terrific night out for the family including 4 reserved grandstand tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 pop for just $44. Plus you'll have a great seat to watch the City of Edmonton's fireworks display after the game.
