Rundles Named Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month for July

Rich Rundles was nearly flawless for a stretch of four starts.
That span earned the left-hander the Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month for July, it was announced today by league officials.
Rundles, 32, joined the 2013 Barnstormers early in the month. He was roughed up in his first start against the York Revolution but proved to be nearly flawless in his next four appearances. The Tennessee native picked up a pair of 1-0 wins, July 14 against Camden and July 31 at Sugar Land. His third win of the month was a 7-2 triumph over Southern Maryland on July 26. The southpaw was not involved in the decision in a 3-2, 10-inning win over Somerset on July 21 after his lead evaporated in the ninth inning.
Over those last four starts, Rundles was brilliant. He did not allow an earned run and gave up only one extra base hit out of the 18 total hits he allowed in 25 innings. His work included only four walks while striking out 14.
His overall numbers were 3-0 with a 0.98 ERA. No left-handed batter earned first base off him.
Rundles first joined the Barnstormers at the start of the 2012 season and was 2-1 with a 3.02 ERA in eight starts before being acquired by the Baltimore Orioles in early June. He was injured in his fourth appearance for Class AAA Norfolk and required two knee surgeries before being able to pitch again. The second of those surgeries took place in May.
"To do what Rich has done since he has come here off two knee surgeries is really special," said manager Butch Hobson. "I'm extremely happy for him."
