PREVIEW: Following three straight postponements in Portland, the Rumble Ponies return to the Southern Tier for their first homestand of the season.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Anthony Kay takes the mound for his second start of the season. The southpaw from Long Island toed the rubber on Opening Night in New Hampshire and allowed one unearned run over 4.2 innings. He struck out four in his Double-A debut.
SNOW CHANCE OF PLAYING: After splitting a four-game series in Manchester, NH, the Rumble Ponies rolled to Portland, but failed to play a game. Snowfall preempted the action on Monday while the fallout of unplayable conditions postponed the action on Tuesday and Wednesday.
THE LAST TIME...: Binghamton had every scheduled game of a series postponed for the first time since 2007. In April that year, a three-game set against the New Britain Rock Cats was postponed due to snow and unplayable filed conditions. Binghamton has had every game of a series postponed eight times in franchise history.
HOME OPENER SUCCESS: Binghamton has won their first home game of the season in each of the last four years, starting with a victory over the Harrisburg Senators on April 16, 2015.
Binghamton's last home opener loss came on April 3, 2014 to the Akron RubberDucks, the first time Akron played under that moniker.
HOME OPENER MAGIC: In last season's home opener, Peter Alonso hit his first of 36 home runs and Tim Tebow launched a three-run homer on the first pitch he saw at Double-A to lead the Rumble Ponies to a 6-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on April 5, 2018.
HOME SWEET HOME: Binghamton went 36-34 at NYSEG Stadium in 2018. The team celebrated its 1,000th regular season victory at their home ballpark with a win over Reading on August 17, 2018.
WORKING DOUBLE TIME: The Rumble Ponies played in two games lasting eleven innings or longer in their last series against the Fisher Cats. In the last three games, five Ponies relievers have thrown two innings or more. Joe Zanghi led the charge on Saturday with a 2.1-inning effort. Of Binghamton's 13 relief appearances this season, nine have been for four outs or more.
WALKING THE TIGHTROPE: In the 40 innings Rumble Ponies pitchers have been on the mound this season, they have stranded 47 total runners. Binghamton pitching held New Hampshire to a 8-for-56 clip (.143) with runners in scoring position in the last series.
AGAINST THE SEAWOLVES: The Rumble Ponies went 12-5 against the SeaWolves last season, including a 7-4 mark at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton is 25-11 versus the SeaWolves in the last two seasons.
