Akron RubberDucks News Release

Akron's Dorssys Paulino belted a two-run homer late in the eighth, Tyler Krieger slapped a late game single to continue his 23-game hitting streak and Sean Brady allowed just two runs over five and two thirds innings, as the RubberDucks defeated the Erie SeaWolves, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at UPMC Park.

Turning Point

The RubberDucks (64-43) trailed 2-1 going into the seventh but rallied against Erie pitchers Joe Navilhon and John Schreiber. Mark Mathias walked with one out in the seventh against Navilhon (2-3) and Sam Haggerty smacked a line-drive double to bring home Mathias, tying the game at 2-2. Right fielder Andrew Calica followed up with a base hit to center field bringing home the lone baserunner and giving Akron a 3-2 lead. Schreiber was summoned from the bullpen to start the eighth inning but managed to give up a one-out base hit to Bobby Bradley, followed by a two-run blast from Dorssys Paulino (4) to blow the game open, giving the Ducks a 5-2 lead late in the game.

Mound Presence

Brady (5-6) looked sharp in his five and two-thirds innings of work. He allowed only two hits and two runs, one of which was earned, in a game where the Ducks racked up four fielding errors early, one of which gave the SeaWolves an early 1-0 lead. He allowed a solo-homer to Sergio Alcantara in the fifth when the SeaWolves (50-56) took a 2-1 lead and a ground ball single to Isaac Paredes in the sixth that was deflected off second baseman Mark Mathias. Brady fanned two and walked three and lowered his ERA to 4.32. Lefty Rob Kaminsky tossed two scoreless innings, and Cole Sulser worked the final out of the eighth and the ninth inning, Fanning four of the five batters he faced for his 1st save.

Duck Tales

Krieger, who was 0-4 heading in to the ninth, cracked a two-out base hit to extend his Eastern League season-high hitting streak to 23 games. Haggerty went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Ka'ai Tom smacked his 16th double of the season to put the first run on the board for the Ducks in the fourth.
