Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators swept a twin bill over the Bowie Baysox Sunday night at FNB Field. The Senators won game one 5-4 and won a walk-off in game two 4-3.
The Senators struck for an early lead in game one of the twin bill. After back-to-back singles to start the first by Hunter Jones and Carter Kieboom, Daniel Johnson hit a sacrifice fly and Jake Noll added an RBI single to put the Senators ahead 2-0.
The team doubled their lead in the third. Jones and Kieboom led off with singles again, and Raudy Read drove both of them home with a run-scoring double into left-center.
Bowie scored their lone run against Senators starter Logan Darnell in the fifth when Yusniel Diaz homered to left.
Darnell (7-5) allowed the one run while limiting Bowie to just three hits across six innings.
Bowie starter Dillon Tate (5-3) surrendered five runs, four earned, over five and a third innings.
The Senators added a run in the fifth when Alec Keller singled in Dan Gamache, who singled to start the frame.
Bowie cut the lead to one in the seventh. After the Baysox loaded the bases to open the frame, Martin Cervenka hit a three-run double to make it a one run game. Dakota Bacus entered the game and retired the final two Baysox hitters to strand the tying run at second, sealing the 5-4 game one win and notching his second save.
The Baysox struck for the first three runs of game two, scoring one in the first and another pair in the second.
The Senators tied the game in the fifth. After two consecutive walks to start the frame, Khayyan Norfork hit a three-run home run to tie the game.
"That was the biggest at-bat of the game. Khayyan came through with a big hit," Senators manager Matt LeCroy said. "He's a kid that doesn't get to play much so you always worry about the timing of everything but he did a nice job of squaring it up."
The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh. Hunter Jones led-off with a 12 pitch at-bat that ended with a walk. With Dan Gamache at the plate, Jones stole second and the throw by catcher Martin Cervenka was mishandled by the shortstop Anderson Feliz, which allowed Jones to get to third. During the same play, centerfielder Ryan McKenna misplayed the errant throw in center, which allowed Jones to score the winning run.
"For (Hunter) to just get on put us in a good spot. That was a good at-bat against a tough guy," LeCroy said. "We call him the squirrel because he's so energetic. He's diving and sliding all over the place. He brings a different type of energy and its infectious."
Austen Williams (3-3) picked up the win with one and two-thirds frames of scoreless relief. Branden Kline (4-3) took the loss after surrendering the game-winning unearned run.
"I really proud of the way our guys fought against a different Bowie team," LeCroy said. "Hopefully we'll get onto a roll."
The Senators have off day on Monday before playing a three game series against the Altoona Curve beginning Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at FNB Field.
