Akron RubberDucks News Release

Summary

Jose Tena's walk-off single to give Akron the 3-2 win in extra innings of game one sparks the RubberDucks offense in route to a 6-1 game two win and doubleheader sweep of the Bowie Baysox on Saturday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Finding themselves down 2-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, the RubberDucks looked to rally in game one. Julian Escobedo lifted a sac-fly to right to score Jhonkensy Noel to tie the game at 2-2. After a single by Quentin Holmes advanced Chris Roller to second, Jose Tena played hero with a RBI single to give the RubberDucks the win.

Tena and the RubberDucks offense kept the momentum going in game two as Tena and Brayan Rocchio each reached to put the pressure on Bowie early. Raynel Delgado singled home both Tena and Rocchio before Noel scored on an error to make it 3-0 Akron.

Mound Presence

Tanner Bibee got the start for Akron in game one and was dominant not allowing a runner past second base through his first five innings of work. Bowie got an unearned run across in the sixth, but Bibee got a strikeout of Toby Welk to escape the inning without more damage. In total, Bibee tossed six innings allowing just the one unearned run while striking out six. Carlos Vargas followed with a scoreless inning of work. Randy Labaut tossed two innings allowing one unearned run while striking out two.

Eli Lingos got the start for Akron in game two and was unhittable. The lefty allowed just one baserunner, a second inning walk to Greg Cullen, over his four hitless innings while striking out four. Newly promoted Jordan Jones made his RubberDucks debut and kept up the strong work on the mound tossing three innings allowing just one unearned run while striking out two.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks jumped on the board first in the fourth inning of game one when Daniel Schneemann singled home Noel to make it 1-0 Akron.

Akron kept the hot hitting going in game two when Schneemann walked before Delgado singled to put runners on the corners with no out. Eric Rodriguez lifted a sac-fly to left to make it 4-1 RubberDucks. Delgado once again was a big part of the RubberDucks scoring when he singled to start the sixth. He scored two batters later on an Escobedo sac-fly to make it 5-1 Akron. Tena legged out an infield single later in the inning, which allowed Holmes to race to third causing an errant throw that brought the RubberDucks outfielder home to make it 6-1 Akron.
