Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Akron RubberDucks defeated the Harrisburg Senators 3-0 in a rain-shortened five-inning contest Sunday afternoon at FNB Field. The 'Ducks scored single runs in each of the first three innings before the game was called due to wet grounds after the bottom of the fifth.
The 'Ducks scored their first run against Senators starting pitcher Wil Crowe in the opening frame. With runners at first and third and two outs and Ka'ai Tom at the plate, Tyler Krieger attempted to steal second. While Krieger was caught in a run-down between first and second, the runner at third, Andrew Calica, came home to score before Krieger was tagged out.
Akron plated a run in the second on a Sam Haggerty sacrifice fly and scored their final run in the third when Krieger tripled home Calica.
Crowe (0-3) allowed all three runs on eight hits across his four innings.
The Senators stranded all six of their baserunners over the five frames. Akron starting pitcher Jake Paulson (7-5) worked five shutout innings before the game was sent into a 30 minute rain delay and eventually called due to field conditions.
The Senators continue the homestand with a two-game series against the Reading Fightin Phils which starts Monday night. Cesar Vargas starts for the Senators opposite Reading starter Felix Paulino. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at FNB Field. The game can be heard on CBS Sports Harrisburg 96.5 & 95.3 FM and 1400 AM or at www.cbssportsharrisburg.com beginning at 6:15 p.m.
