Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron's Tyler Krieger had four hits and three RBI, and Sean Brady allowed two runs over five innings, as the RubberDucks captured a 7-6 win over the Erie SeaWolves, 8-6, Tuesday night at UPMC Park in Erie, Pa.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks (71-56) staged a massive, two-out, six-run rally in the second inning to chase Erie starter Alfred Gutierrez (2-3). After the first two were retired, Daniel Salters and Alexis Pantoja got the line moving with back-to-back singles. Ernie Clement followed with an RBI double to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. After Andrew Calica was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Tyler Krieger smacked a two-run single to right-center. Gutierrez walked Nellie Rodriguez to re-load the bases. Right-hander Christian Binford replaced Gutierrez and immediately threw gas on the fire by surrendering a three-run, bases-clearing triple to Ka'ai Tom to extend the Akron lead to 6-0.
Mound Presence
Brady (6-7) was tough on the Wolves, as the lefty allowed just two runs over five innings. Brady scattered eight hits, but only walked one. He allowed a two-run homer to Jake Rogers in the bottom of the second. Lefty Matt Whitehouse took over in the sixth and served up a lead-off homer to Josh Lester and later a two-run single by Danny Woodrow to cut Akron's lead to 7-5. After a lengthy rain delay in the bottom of the eighth, right-hander Jordan Milbrath inherited a bases-loaded jam with one out. He spiked a wild pitch to allow a run to score and cut the lead to 7-6, but struck out Sergio Alcantara and former Akron shortstop Willi Castro to preserve the lead. Milbrath stayed in for the ninth and pitched scoreless ball for his first save.
Duck Tales
Krieger added another RBI single in the sixth to open up a 7-2 lead. He finished with four hits on the night and now owns a seven-game hit streak. Clement also had a phenomenal game, cracking three doubles and scoring twice. Tom chipped in a timely RBI single in the ninth inning, providing a critical insurance run, to hand the Ducks an 8-6 lead.
