
RubberDucks Fall, 5-2, Drop Series in Altoona

With three hits apiece from shortstop Nick Gonzales and third baseman Andres Alvarez, the Altoona Curve built a 5-0 lead through six innings in a 5-2 Sunday afternoon victory over the Akron RubberDucks, taking the final two games of the series to win four of six at Peoples Natural Gas Field during the week-long series.
Turning Point
The Curve broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the first inning against right-hander Tanner Burns. Gonzales hit a one-out single to left-center field, went to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third base on a groundout. With two outs, catcher Henry Davis hit an RBI single to center field for a 1-0 Altoona lead.
Mound Presence
Burns worked the first four innings, allowing the second Altoona run on two hits and a wild pitch in the fourth inning. He allowed five hits and three walks without a strikeout. Right-hander Jerson Ramírez began the fifth inning and allowed a one-out walk and a two-out, two-run home run to Alvarez that extended the Curve lead to 4-0. Right-hander Brett Daniels got the final out of the fifth inning and allowed a sixth-inning, one-out RBI single by catcher Endy Rodriguez - the first run against Daniels since July 31, after he had eight straight scoreless appearances. Right-hander Mason Hickman and Kyle Marman each worked a scoreless inning, with Hickman extended an 8 1/3-inning scoreless streak since joining Akron.
Duck Tales
Trailing 5-0, the RubberDucks reached the scoreboard in the seventh inning, as first baseman Jhonkensy Noel hit a leadoff double to left field, and shortstop Angel Martínez hit an RBI double to right field against left-hander Nick Dombkowski. In the eighth inning, designated hitter José Tena drilled his ninth home run of the season with one out against right-hander Brad Case. It was Tena's team-high 123rd hit of the season.
Notebook
Johnathan Rodríguez doubled to extend a four-game hitting streak...Sunday's loss snapped the RubberDucks' four-series winning streak and marked Akron's first series loss since the All-Star break (had been 5-0-1)...Akron finished the season 13-11 against Altoona, including 7-5 at Peoples Natural Gas Field...Game Time: 2:29...Attendance: 3,896.
