Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron's Bobby Bradley homered twice with three RBI, and Andrew Calica homered and also drove in three runs, as the RubberDucks defeated the Bowie Baysox, 12-5, Monday night in the opener of a four-game series at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Md.
Turning Point
After trailing, 1-0, through two innings, it didn't take the RubberDucks long to take command of the game. They sent nine batters to the plate in the third inning and scored five times against Baysox starter Brian Gonzalez (1-4). Willi Castro stroked a two-run double with the bases loaded to give the Ducks a 2-1 lead. Connor Marabell followed with a two-run single to make it 4-1. Ka'ai Tom's deep fly ball to center was dropped for an error, plating the fifth run of the inning for a 5-1 lead.
Mound Presence
Right-hander Dominic DeMasi lasted only four innings for the RubberDucks (43-33). He served up back-to-back homers in the third inning and allowed four earned runs in his four innings. Matt Whitehouse (3-1) followed with two scoreless innings to earn the win in relief. Kieran Lovegrove (1.2 IP) and Henry Martinez (1.1 IP) finished up for Akron.
Duck Tales
Bradley smacked the first of his two home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off Bowie reliever Cameron Ming. It was a two-run shot to make it 7-3. Calica swatted a solo shot to right-center on the first pitch of the sixth, also off Ming, to extend Akron's lead to 8-4. It was Calica's fifth of the year. Bradley homered leading off the ninth, his second of the game and 14thof the year. Calica capped the ninth with a two-run single to give the Ducks plenty of insurance and a 12-5 lead.
