RubberDucks Beat Erie in 11

Akron RubberDucks second baseman Jorma Rodriguez hit the go-ahead RBI single - extended his six-game hitting streak - in the top of the 11th inning, and left-hander Matt Whitehouse (2-1) did not allow a hit in the final three innings of a 4-3 win over the Erie SeaWolves that snapped Akron's three-game losing streak on Wednesday night at UPMC Park.

Turning Point

With a 3-3 tie, neither team scored in the 10th inning. In the top of the 11th, against right-hander Mark Ecker, Rodriguez lined a single past Erie first baseman Chad Sedio down the first-base line, scoring left fielder Ka'ai Tom from second base with the go-ahead run. Whitehouse stranded two SeaWolves for a second straight inning to finish the 4-3 win.

Mound Presence

RubberDucks right-hander Jake Paulson took the mound with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. He allowed single runs in the second and fourth innings on Sedio's RBI single and double, respectively, but he finished five innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Left-hander Kyle Nelson worked a scoreless sixth inning but allowed two baserunners in the seventh and was charged with the game-tying unearned run in the seventh inning. Right-hander Nick Sandlin struck out four batters in two scoreless innings, before Whitehouse began the ninth inning and struck out all three batters to force extra innings. For Erie, right-hander Alex Faedo did not allow a run after the first inning in a six-inning start. Ecker pitched a scoreless 10th inning before allowing the deciding run in the 11th.

Duck Tales

Erie had pitched 44 straight innings without allowing an earned run, and the RubberDucks had been shut out for a stretch of 32 innings on the road, but both streaks ended in the top of the first inning, as third baseman Tyler Krieger drew a leadoff walk, shortstop Alexis Pantoja singled, and center fielder Daniel Johnson hit a two-run double. Pantoja also hit a seventh-inning go-ahead double among his game-high three hits and now has a team-high nine multi-hit games this season. Rodriguez's six-game hitting streak matches two Wilson Garcia streaks for the team's longest this season.

Notebook

Akron improved to 3-5 (2-2 on the road) in extra-inning games, after having lost all three such contests at home against Reading last weekend... The RubberDucks' win snapped their season-long three-game road losing streak...Akron also won for the first time in four one-run road games...Time of game: 3:06...Attendance: 1,151.

On the Pond

The RubberDucks conclude their series in Erie on Thursday at 10:35 a.m. EDT. LHP Sam Hentges (1-4, 6.26) is scheduled to start for Akron against RHP Anthony Castro (1-0, 3.86) for the SeaWolves.
