Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Jeff MacDougald ['mac DOO guld'] to an Amateur Tryout Agreement. MacDougald (6'0/210) (25), who hails from Shallow Lake, Ontario, just completed his fifth year of eligibility at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he compiled a record of 10-5-0 with a 3.40 goals against average and a.895 save percentage. The Golden Hawks were eliminated from the Ontario University Athletics' playoffs on Sunday.
In four-and-a-half seasons of Canadian university hockey at Wilfrid Laurier, MacDougald picked up fifty-one wins in a total of seventy-nine regular season games. His most productive year with the Golden Hawks may have been in 2006-07 when he led the team to the OAU's Queen's Cup Championship game and helped WLU earn a berth in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championship tournament. Although Wilfrid Laurier was knocked out in the semi-finals in the national championships that year, MacDougald was named to the CIS Tournament All-Star Team. Prior to kicking off his Canadian university career with the Golden Hawks, MacDougald played three seasons of major junior with the Peterbrough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League and part of a fourth season in the OHL with the Sarnia Sting.
The Royals take the ice again on Friday night (February 26, 2010 @ 7:05 pm) when the Wheeling Nailers travel to the Sovereign Center. The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show at 6:35 pm.
