Victoria, BC - The Western Hockey League today announced that Victoria Royals' netminder Shane Farkas has been named the WHL Eli Wilson Goaltending Goaltender of the Week.
The 20-year-old goaltender earned the award after he appeared in three contests for the Royals and registered a 2-0-0-0 record. In those three games, Farkas recorded a 1.19 goals against average (GAA) and a 0.963 save percentage (SV%).
The product of Penticton, BC stopped 77 of the 80 shots he faced this past week, that began with a 33-save performance in a 3-1 win over Vancouver Giants on Wednesday night. Farkas picked up his second victory of the week in a 3-1 win on Saturday versus the Seattle Thunderbirds, where he made 31 saves. The 1999-born netminder was named the first star of the game in both contests. He also turned aside 13 of the 14 shots he faced in a relief appearance on Friday against Seattle.
This marks the third time in his WHL career, and second this season, that the 6-2, 187 lb goaltender has won the award. Farkas also earned the award in the 2017-18 season as a member of the Portland Winterhawks.
In 101 career WHL regular season games, Farkas has posted a record of 58-28-4-4 along with a 2.89 GAA, a 0.905 SV% and seven shutouts.
The Royals will now head to Prince George for a pair of games against the Cougars on Friday and Saturday night. Puck drop for both contests is at 7:05 p.m.
Victoria will return home to play their last two games before the holiday break on Tuesday, December 17th and Wednesday, December 18th against the Spokane Chiefs. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Select Your Tickets box office, over the phone by calling 250-220-7777, or online at www.selectyourtickets.com.
