Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are proud to announce they have teamed up with Island Savings for the team's Full Cupboard Night this Sunday to raise donations for The Mustard Seed.
Fans will be able to make monetary and food donations on Full Cupboard Night, in support of The Mustard Seed's annual Spirit of Giving campaign, at Sunday's game versus Kelowna with puck drop at 7:05 p.m. The donations will be accepted by Island Savings employees at Gate 1 during Sunday's game.
"We are very excited to be partnering with Island Savings on this wonderful initiative," Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Darren Parker said. "These donations will directly help local Victoria families in need and to be able to do this for the Mustard Seed, who does so much good, makes it even more special."
On Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., several Royals' players will be on hand at the Mustard Seed to present a $3,500 cheque to the food bank. This will be the official kickoff to this year's fundraising campaign. The $3,500 donation is a result of last season's Island Savings' Stop Hunger campaign, which saw a pound of non-perishable food donated to The Mustard Seed for every save made by a Royals goaltender.
"Thanks to the buying power we have as a food bank, a $1 donation is able to provide the equivalent of three meals a day to a child in Victoria," says Allan Lingwood, development director at The Mustard Seed. "We're really able to stretch these dollars to supply families in need with perishable items or staples that aren't commonly donated-so cash donations are an incredibly important part of this year's Spirit of Giving campaign."
Island Savings launched The Full Cupboard in August, a community investment program aimed at raising food, funds and awareness for 11 Island-based food banks. Since the program launched, The Full Cupboard has already raised more than $43,000 dollars, providing more than 130,000 meals to Island children-great work that the Royals are proud to support at Sunday's game.
"At this time of year thousands of parents are stretched to make Christmas happen while still managing to put food on the table," says Randy Bertsch, president of Island Savings, "so raising funds in our communities will relieve some of this immediate need for food while we develop capacity-building programs to reduce food bank dependence in the long term.
"One in three Island food bank users is a child-a fact that our communities need to be acutely aware of if we're going to be able to move the dial on hunger."
The Royals' eight game homestand continues tonight when the club hosts the Prince Albert Raiders at 7:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Select Your Tickets Box Office, over the phone by calling 250-220-7889 or by visiting www.selectyourtickets.com.
