KAILER YAMAMOTO CAPS STELLAR NIGHT WITH OVERTIME WINNER FOR CHIEFS

SPOKANE SNAPS EVERETT'S STREAK WITH 3-2 WIN

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs got the monkey off their back thanks in large part to a two-goal effort from star forward Kailer Yamamoto on Saturday night at Spokane Arena, defeating the division-leading Everett Silvertips 3-2 in overtime. The Chiefs snapped Everett's six-game winning streak and Spokane has now earned a point in seven consecutive games.

After a score by Everett's Spencer Gerth at the 18:27 mark of the first period, Yamamoto wrapped around the Silvertips' net and found overage forward Markson Bechtold open in the slot. Bechtold snapped his second goal of the season past goaltender Carter Hart to tie the game, 1-1.

The Silvertips regained a one-goal lead midway through the second period as Montreal Canadiens prospect Noah Juulsen picked the top-left corner to beat Spokane goalie Dawson Weatherill.

The Chiefs refused to back down, finally breaking through with Yamamoto's first of the night - and 14th of the season - just under four minutes into the third period. Bechtold and rookie defenseman Ty Smith, in his first game back with Spokane after earning a silver medal with Canada Black at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge - paired up for the assists.

Spokane found themselves in overtime for the fourth-straight game and finally came away with two points in the standings as Yamamoto lasered his second goal past Hart from the left circle on a power play at the 2:04 mark. The goal put Yamamoto in second place in the Western Hockey League in goals scored; two behind Tri-City's Michael Rasmussen at 17. He has five over the Chiefs' last three games and extended his point streak to seven games (eight goals, five assists).

Spokane did not take a penalty during the game, setting a franchise record with zero penalty minutes. Everett went 1-for-3 on the penalty kill. The Chiefs outshot Everett, 33-18.

The Chiefs moved to 7-6-4-1 on the season and remained in third place in the U.S. Division.
