LAST GAME: The Royals pounded New Orleans 12-4 on Tuesday, earning a split of the 4-game series in front of 17,277 fans on the 9th annual Cox Home Run for Youth Day. Damon Hollins had 5 RBI on the day, capping a 3-run 1st inning with a 2-run triple and putting the exclamation point on a 5-run 4th inning by hitting a 3-run homer off the left field foul pole to make it 12-0. Omaha starter Kyle Davies (2-1) fired 7.0 scoreless innings, giving up just 2 singles and no walks, while striking out 3. Z's starter Brian Stokes (2-2) took the loss, after being battered for 11 earned runs on 9 hits over 3.1 innings.

ROYALS REPORT: Davies leads the PCL with a 0.90 ERA after 4 starts, while Jorge De La Rosa's 1.15 ERA after 3 starts ranks 2nd. Omaha's 3.50 team ERA trails only Salt Lake (3.24) in the PCL. *** Hollins on Tuesday became the 1st Royal to have 5 RBI in a game since Justin Huber knocked in 5 runs on June 7, 2007 in the Royals' 7-1 win vs. Nashville. Huber followed that up with a 6-RBI effort last June 10 to lead Omaha to a 10-6 win over the Sounds at Rosenblatt. *** Tuesday's 8-run margin of victory was the largest of the season for the Royals, the 5-run 4th inning was the biggest inning of the year and the 12 runs scored by Omaha equaled a season high. *** The largest crowd of the season on Tuesday jumped the Royals from 16th out of 16 PCL teams in average attendance (2,916) to 11th (4,353 per game). *** Stokes, whose ERA climbed from 1.50 to 5.91 after Tuesday's start, is the first opposing pitcher to allow 11 earned runs in a game since July 6, 2003. That's when Scott Elarton, pitching for Colorado Springs, gave up 11 earnies in a 12-5 win for the Royals at Rosenblatt. Elarton wound up pitching in KC's organization in 2006 and 2007. *** Shane Costa had 3 RBI Tuesday, 2 of them coming on his 2nd home run of the season. Costa also scored twice, giving him a team-leading 16 runs this season. *** Omaha's 24 home runs this year are tied for 2nd-most in the PCL. Albuquerque leads the league with 30 round-trippers. *** Dave Matranga, who had 3 singles and two walks in 5 trips to the plate Tuesday, has hit in all 3 games that he has played in, going 5-for-10 with 4 RBI and 5 runs scored. *** Mike Aviles and Chris Lubanski are both riding 6-game hitting streaks. During the streaks, Aviles is hitting .346 (9-for-26) with 3 doubles and 4 RBI, while Lubanski is batting .316 (6-for-19) with a homer and 3 RBI. *** Lefty reliever Paul Mildren joins Omaha today from Double-A Northwest Arkansas. In 5 relief outings with the Naturals, the 23-year old Aussie was 1-2 with a 2.53 ERA.

STARTERS: RH Nic Ungs (1-2, 10.32) vs. LH Tyler Lumsden (1-1, 6.39)

Lumsden makes his 4th start of the season. The 24-year old lefty's last outing was last Thursday at Nashville, when he got the win in a 6-5 victory (5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HR). Lumsden, who was acquired by KC along with right-hander Daniel Cortes from the White Sox in exchange for Mike MacDougal in July 2006, spent all of last season with Omaha. He was 9-6 with a 5.88 ERA in 25 games (24 starts) during his 1st season at the Triple-A level. In 3 starts vs. Nashville in 2007, he went 0-3 with an 8.36 ERA. Lumsden pitched for Surprise in the Arizona Fall League and was 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA in 7 relief appearances. He is ranked by Baseball America as KC's #13 prospect entering 2008, after being rated #5 prior to 2007. The same publication named him as having the Best Slider in the White Sox organization entering the 2006 season. In '06, he was 9-4 with a 2.69 ERA in 20 starts for the White Sox Double-A affiliate at Birmingham. Following the trade to KC, he finished the '06 campaign at Wichita, going 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 7 games (6 starts). He missed the entire 2005 season after undergoing surgery on his left elbow. Lumsden was selected by the Chisox as a sandwich pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds (34th overall) of the 2004 draft after compiling a 17-7 record in 3 seasons at Clemson. He graduated from Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, Virginia, where he lettered all 4 years in baseball and basketball and was a hoops teammate of J.J. Redick, who went on to star at Duke. Out of high school, Lumsden was selected in the 5th round of the 2001 draft by the Marlins, but did not sign.
