Koyie Hill drove in Casey McGehee in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Iowa Cubs a 3-2 victory over the Memphis Redbirds at Principal Park Thursday night.

Iowa's starter J.R. Mathes scattered six hits in as many innings, striking out four while issuing only two walks on the night. Iowa took an early 1-0 lead as right fielder Josh Kroeger drove in shortstop Andres Blanco on a first inning double play. The Cubs added another run on an RBI groundout by Blanco to give Iowa a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Memphis made it a one-run game in the fifth inning when Redbirds catcher Gabe Johnson singled to center field to drive in a run. A one out, eighth-inning single by Memphis left fielder Nick Stavinoha tied the game at 2-2.

Center fielder Andres Torres extended his hit streak to a season-high ten games in the win.

Cubs reliever Jose Ascanio (1-0) picked up the win for the Cubs while Jason Motte (1-1) took the loss for the Redbirds. The Iowa Cubs welcomed the 12 millionth fan in franchise history tonight, dating back to 1969 when triple A baseball came to Des Moines.
